Golden Globes 2013 Red Carpet Trends - Black Is Back

Black is back! As much as I adore color I have always associated glamour with black and the red carpet showed us just how well even minimalist black can work. Not to mention the fact EVERYONE looks great in black ;)

The other trend to keep an eye out for is the deep plunging neckline. I have to say I've not been a fan in the past because the look can quite easily cross the line into trashy territory but these ladies managed to balance sexy and elegant.

Katherine McPhee is the picture of modern elegance in a black Theyskens' Theory gown with a navel grazing plunge neckline and crossover skirt. I love her barely there shoes with ankle straps and boxy black and gold clutch. Modern and edgy.

Allison Williams looked beautiful in a black halterneck gown with plunge neckline. Her pretty coral earrings soften the look keeping it fresh and modern.

Kate Hudson is a showstopper in a fitted Alexander McQueen gown with yet another deep neckline. I love the gold "baroque" details although I wish she'd worn her hair up to show off that beautiful neckline.

Eva Longoria is her usual glamorous self in an Emilio Pucci gown with thigh high split and that deep plunge neckline. I do like this dress but it feels very familiar on Eva, especially with the bouffant up do.

Golden Globes 2013 Red Carpet Trends - The Mermaid Gown

It's that time of year again folks! It's the 2013 Golden Globe Awards and the red carpet is setting the tone for what glamour will look like in the coming year.

Slinky mermaid gowns that hug curves and flare just enough to allow you to walk without waddling had a strong showing on the red carpet. I'll dare to make the prediction we'll see many beautiful brides in 2013 adopt this striking and glamorous look.

Jessica Alba was a standout in a striking, deep peach Oscar De La Renta mermaid gown. Her gown featured another trend, the sweetheart neckline which showed up in many gowns on this red carpet. I love her side swept Old Hollywood waves and orange lipstick. Just too divine!

Hayden Panettiere looked elegant in a soft blush Roberto Cavalli mermaid gown with a subtle sweetheart neckline. Her pink lips and the addition of her pink clutch keeps the whole look soft without getting too girly. One of the best looks I've seen on Hayden to date. Everything just works!

Amy Adams is just glorious in her dramatic Marchesa gown. Yet again we have a soft blush color that almost blends into Amy's alabaster skin but that tulle skirt is what just gets me! What's not to love? Paired with a side swept up do with old Hollywood waves and drop earrings her look is the picture of glamour. Yet another one of my favorite looks of the night.

Megan Fox chose a nude Dolce & Gabbana fit and flare gown with lace detail that shows her post baby body in all it's magnificence. Her "almost mermaid" gown is very wearable and although not as dramatic as some of the others still very elegant and pretty.

Enjoy!

GoS - What's New For 2013

Hello all and welcome to 2013! Yes, I'm a little late, it's the thought that counts though right? So where have Mel & I been over the past few weeks? Well I can't say we've been lounging by the pool on a tropical island or anything, we've simply been caught up in the season.

Christmas and New Year is a very busy time for both of us as it is for most. It is a time when all else is set aside and family and loved ones are put first and given the appreciation and time we sometimes cannot give throughout the year. It is also a time of reflection, on the year that has been and the hopes for the year to come.

Personally I no longer make New Years' resolutions as I found June, just in time for my birthday - I would become depressed at all the resolutions I had not yet lived up to. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for goal setting and purpose but these days instead of making resolutions I am resolute to be the best I can be and all that encompasses. It's refreshingly satisfying to look back and focus on the things you did achieve rather than those you didn't. It gives hope!

Our hopes for the blog this year is to be consistent and to bring you the myriad of wonderful things that fills the days of the every day woman be it fashion, food, fun, frivolity, family, facts, the high, the lows, the in - betweens... you get the picture. We hope you will join us in conversation, share your thoughts, ideas and wishes.

For you and yours we wish you a New Year filled with joy, peace and love. May you see the beauty and potential even in the mundane. May you learn with us to be grateful for all we have instead of pining for that which we don't.

Thank you for your support through 2012 and we look forward to sharing a wonderful 2013 with you.

Enjoy!
