Oscars 2013 Red Carpet Trend - Metallics!

So the Oscars for 2013 has finished... at least for us! I'm sure some in Hollywood today are still out partying or dragging themselves home after the intense lead up to that epic night.

And wasn't it a big night? It certainly was an overdose of fashion! I've seen many a commenter state that fashion was "safe" but what is "safe" when it comes to the Oscars? A classic cut and color that won't date and look like a bad prom photo 5 years from now hardly strikes me as safe. I call it wise! On one of Hollywoods most serious nights the red carpet cry should be elegant and classic and for the most part that's what we got.

But now on to one of the biggest trends of the night! The little golden man set the tone for the red carpet this year as it was all about metallics... beautiful bodies dripping in all forms of precious metals. Here are some of our favorites!

Stacey Keibler was deserving of an Oscar just for showing up in this jaw dropper! Her stunning gunmetal and silver embellished gown hugged her in all the right places and took me to the 1920's with it's art deco feel.

Halle Berry is one striking woman who never makes it onto my fashion lists simply because she very rarely gets it right in the fashion stakes. On this occassion I had to double take! This is just perfection. Her silver and black gown could not have been patterned more perfectly to show off that statuesque body. I actually want to put her on my mantel and stare at her all day!

Living in Australia I could not flick the channel without hearing about Naomis' red carpet style. I like Naomi and I part of me likes this dress but maybe not for the Oscars. With it's ultra modern cut out sleevework I feel this dress will look dated in time. I cannot deny that she does look great for the moment though.

But wait people... there's more. Naomi opted to change out of that little sparkler into this one! Yet another one shoulder number with metallics and sparkle. Unfortunately this one is not as flattering on Naomis' wonderful figure so I'm glad she wore the silver gray sparkler for the Oscars red carpet instead of this one. Naomis' left arm making two appearances on the night was a little reminiscent of Angelinas' leg last year ;)

For some of those who played the elegant and glamorous card at the awards the after party saw them kick up their heels. Jennifer Lawrence swapped her alsmost bridal Dior gown (that I loved!) for a gunmetal / silver gray liquid metal gown. The theme for the night was definitely form fitting when it came to these precious metal gowns as all of them were column cut. After a while it became a little familiar.

Amy Adams too stepped out of her ballgown and upped the ante in this too too divine gown with silver beading and hints of champagne gold. This 1920's style gown is how to do "bling" elegantly!

Steal Her Style : Taylor Swift Black Dress Brit Awards 2013

Taylor Swift hit the red carpet at the 2013 Brit Awards in style. Her black Elie Saab evening gown with mesh insert detail was modern and bold. Styled with a gold metal belt and cuff the overall look is strong and sexy without being a flesh fest.

Pulling it all together was Taylors signature smokey eye, a pinky nude lip and black nails.

Taylors style in this instance is very easy to recreate on any budget and it's oh so weable even for us mere mortals. So here are a few ways to get your hands on this look!

At around $215 this Aqua belted maxi from Asos takes the thinking out of it.

Coming in at just under $50 this black column maxi from Asos has a few of the key details such as a high neckline and figure hugging form that we see in Taylors Elie Saab gown. Paired with the right accessories this look will certainly grab attention!

To complement your black maxi dress don't forget your metal belt. One of my favorites at the moment is the basic instincts full metal belt coming in at just under $50!

To finish off your look don't forget your gold cuff! Coming in at under $60 it doesn't cost the earth to look a million bucks! ;) Throw on some strappy black or gold heels and you too can look like a star hitting the red carpet!

Enjoy!

Bridesmaid Dresses - Coral Colors By Amsale 2013

It's been a little while since we've done a wedding blog and this week Amsales' Fall 2013 bridesmaid designs caught my eye. I was intrigued to see a bold and bright color like coral in the Fall 2013 bridesmaid collection. Then I thought why not?!! I've certainly seen the sky and trees turn red/pink/orange during the Fall / Autumn months.

As always Amsales' designs combine classic features with a modern minimalism. One of my picks of the bunch is this divine strapless gown in floaty chiffon. I love the barely there peplum detail at the waist that gives this simple column dress something extra.

If a block of coral is not your thing Amsale presented us with a few floral options. Yet again we have the romance of chiffon with a very modern floral print that is easy to wear.

I love that they provided this floral in a few different styles as strapless certainly isn't for everyone. I could see this beautiful design adding drama to a beautiful beach side or garden wedding.

Why not mix it up and pick a different design for each of your bridesmaids in keeping with their personal style and body shape.

You can also take some inspiration from the beautiful styling of these looks for your bridesmaids. If you're all daring enough opt for a bright coral lip that packs a punch and keep the rest of your makeup neutral. Slicked back hair and no jewelry keeps this look very modern. With such a divine color and beautiful shapes you certainly don't need much to make a statement.

Amsales' bridesmaid collection comes in a variety of colors that won't dissappoint! And in my opinion their beautiful cuts won't be relegated to the back of the wardrobe after the wedding. These dresses are designed to be worn again and again!

Enjoy!

Grammy Awards 2013 - Get Rihannas Red Dress Look

Thank heavens the 2013 Grammys came with a requirement to wear actual clothes this year. I actually chuckled when I heard organisers had to send out a note explaining to guests that they should cover their privates & basically arrive looking respectable. I for one certainly am grateful because it's given us one of the best looks I have seen on Rihanna to date!

What a divine shade of red her Azzedine Alaia silk chiffon gown was with it's sheer panels. Sure she could have added some nipple pasties but I won't push my luck - I love this look and I'm sure in the next few months we'll see red gowns doing the rounds... haha yes I'm rhyming ;) Rihanna kept that red theme going strong with matching nails, lips and heels creating this perfectly pretty look.

If you simply can't wait for the mass reproductions of this gown and you need it now! Alex Perry has one he prepared earlier and it's currently on sale.  His beautiful Romana gown can be found at David Jones. It has the same full skirt detail as Rihannas gown, comes in a "to die for" red and has an intricate bust detail. Alternatively you can hire the dress at Glamcorner.com.au

We'll be sure to bring you a more detailed "red dress" blog shortly ;)

Enjoy,

Trendspotting - Leather Trend Fall / Winter 2013

It's still very hot in my backyard but store stock is telling me otherwise. As I wandered my local Westfield yesterday, gone were the pastel and neon wedges, gone were the bright floral skater dresses and denim shorts that were signatures of Summer. In their place was a myriad of leather and suede boots, dark denim and leather! So today let's look at one of the biggest trends for Fall / Winter 2013.

Leather is key for the upcoming cooler seasons and I don't mean just the leather biker jacket we are all so used to throwing over an outfit to keep us warm. 2013 has reinvented leather into lighter, more feminine pieces that come in the form of dresses, tops, trousers and shorts. Easy to wear these pieces are designed to be staples in your wardrobe that can be mixed and matched.

All these pieces are available at www.myer.com.au

Jessica Alba recently hit the red carpet in an LBD with leather bust detail. Not everyone is confident enough to pull off a head to toe leather look so keep an eye out for leather insert details.

Olivia Wilde took my breathe away in this knee length leather LBD with laser cut lace details across the bust and sleeves. It's those little details that soften the overall look and make this so wearable and feminine.

Get your very own leather LBD with this super cute Tracy Reese leather peplum dress. A perfect trans-seasonal look you can start wearing this in the evening as summer winds down and layer it up with opaque tights and a blazer or swing coat in Winter.

Alternatively you can pair this Tinley Road faux leather peplum top with a pencil skirt for the office or a pair skinny jeans for a day out.

So ladies, don't be afraid of the leather trend. There is most definitely something for everyone!

Enjoy!

Grow Food Not Lawns - Gardening At Home

Hi all,

It's been some time since we've put up a blog as it's been particularly busy on this side of the world. The first quater of the year always seems to have a million bithday parties and events that keep our calenders filled but it's time to get back to work.

Today I wanted to share a wonderful Facebook page that inspires me everytime I log on. Grow Food Not Lawns is an amazing page that shares wondeful ideas on how to create gardens at home, even with limited space.

About 6 months ago my husband started our small garden in a teeny tiny space along the side of the house. We've already eaten tomatoes from our own soil and currently have a new bunch growing. We also currently have some lettuce, cucumbers and mint - our very own salad! Perhaps not the most diverse garden but it's a start and it has certainly inspired us to grow more.

Over the next few weeks I'll be sharing some photos of our mini garden and photos of some of our families' gardens. This is definitely something everyone can do for themselves. For now here is some inspirational and clever ideas from Grow Food Not Lawns that you can try yourself!

Need to get rid of that bookshelf cluttering your house? How about turning it into a garden box for your balcony?1 Not only are you recycling, you're growing a manageable garden!

Still in the theme of recycling - don't buy plastic garden pots, use old bricks as mini planters. This is also a great way to get create\ive and design a decorative pattern or path in any sized garden.

One of the cutest and cleverest recycling ideas yet, little egg shell cups. Perfect for growing your seedlings on the kitchen bench!

Let's all get our thuimbs green!  Enjoy!
