MET BALL 2013 - GLAMOROUS PUNKS!

There were a few daring ladies who really embraced the punk theme of this years ball opting for darker moody looks.

At the top of my list was Anne Hathaway. Giving us a glam punk look with her newly bleached locks and peek a boo black gown with feather details I can see Anne behind a mic being a glamorous anarchist.

 

Fishnet and punk has always gone hand in hand. Miley Cyrus embraced the theme with her piercing spiked hair do and slinky gown giving us another glam take on punk.

 

 

Rosie Huntington Whiteley took my break away in this moody, slinky gown. The fluidity of the skirt and the feathers evokes images of the decadent 1920's. Then there's that fishnet bodice - just glorious!!

MET BALL 2013 - WHITE HOT TREND

It's been a while girls and boys but the call of the 2013 MET Ball was all too much so let's get down to business. With a "punk" theme this year I had high hopes for some very intriguing looks but for the most part it seems "couture punk" is quite demure. Who would have guessed right? Having said that, there were still some great looks to behold... here are some...

White hot was the biggest trend of the night. The quietly beautiful Rooney Mara (who also co-chaired the event) stepped out in a divine Givenchy creation. Her naturally pale skin, signature deep lip and the zippers add edge to this look. One of my faves of the night this girl hardly ever gets it wrong!

 

 Nicole Richie followed the trend in head to toe white, literally! I love the cheek of the white hair with the otherwise demure column gown. Not punk per say but definitely a head turner, Nicole rocks!

 

 

Olivia Wilde rocked in a beautiful strapless column white gown with dangerous cutouts and a belt detail. The dress hugs her figure superbly I just wished she amped up her makeup with a bold lip or dark mysterious eye.

 

 

Sienna Miller followed suit with her simple white gown choosing to throw her hair over to one side a la "90"s punk rock style. This girl knows her punk, adding a spiked headband and heavily spiked leather jacket she looks like she's having a whole lotta fun!

 

 

Katie Holmes was a vision in white. There was a subtlety to her look with a ripped detail on her train, khol rimmed eyes and a pompadour.

Steal Her Style : Taylor Swift Black Dress Brit Awards 2013



Taylor Swift hit the red carpet at the 2013 Brit Awards in style. Her black Elie Saab evening gown with mesh insert detail was modern and bold. Styled with a gold metal belt and cuff the overall look is strong and sexy without being a flesh fest.

Pulling it all together was Taylors signature smokey eye, a pinky nude lip and black nails.

Taylors style in this instance is very easy to recreate on any budget and it's oh so weable even for us mere mortals. So here are a few ways to get your hands on this look!

At around $215 this Aqua belted maxi from Asos takes the thinking out of it.

 

 

Coming in at just under $50 this black column maxi from Asos has a few of the key details such as a high neckline and figure hugging form that we see in Taylors Elie Saab gown. Paired with the right accessories this look will certainly grab attention!

To complement your black maxi dress don't forget your metal belt. One of my favorites at the moment is the basic instincts full metal belt coming in at just under $50!

 

 

To finish off your look don't forget your gold cuff! Coming in at under $60 it doesn't cost the earth to look a million bucks! ;) Throw on some strappy black or gold heels and you too can look like a star hitting the red carpet!

Fashion Fail Friday - MTV Movie Awards Worst Dressed

This week gave us the 2012 Mtv Movie Awards and with it some fashion failures! The one common trend was "cut outs". Cut outs can be hard to wear for anyone and it is a rare ocassion that it actually looks good but here are two ladies who gave us a definitive "How NOT to wear cut out detail".

First up we have Julianne Hough. A slashy by trade... singer / actress / ballroom dancer. Julianne decided to take her slashy status to extremes by slashing the middle of her dress. Unfortunately all this succeeded in doing was making her middle look wide and her overall look cheap. Add this to the too short, too tight skirt and her parted leg stance and we have a massive FAIL!

Next up we have Brooke Hogan. Not known for anything other than her dad... Hulk Hogan and her hideous fashion sense at least Brooke is consistent in her bad styling. Brooke too opted to embrace the cut out trend as well as the sequin trend. Again, the cut out created a wide silhouette and the uber short sparkly dress invoked images of stripper couture. We also have some concern for Brookes graduated skin color!

So ladies let's take a hint... cut out detail does not flatter the feminine figure and uber short is not a sign of style and taste.

Trending - Sheer dressing on the red carpet CFDA Fashion Awards

Sheer dressing is still a hot trend as we saw at the 2012 CFDA awards red carpet recently. One of our favorite looks was Zoe Saldana in Prabal Gurung. Zoes' sheer dress with geometric cutouts is modern and edgy. We love that she kept her styling simple opting for minimal jewelry, dramatic cat eyes, neutral lips and an updo. A class act all the way.

Jessica Stam embraced a number of trends in her sapphire blue Jason Wu sheer dress with sheer lace detail underneath. We love this look for a different take on sheer dressing as we've seen so much black sheer dresses. Her gothic hair however leaves us scratching our heads.

Doutzen Kroes was another beauty who stepped out in a sheer style. She wore a Sophie Theallet halterneck gown with polka dot detail. Her accesories were simple and we love her cat eye make up and pink lips.

Red dress trend - Charlize Theron MTV Movie Awards

Today has been a BIG day for the sexy little red dress. First we saw the Duchess of Cambridge in her red Alexander McQueen and now we have Charlize Theron in a lovely Lanvin red strapless dress with peplum detail.

We love the way Charlize this simple and beautiful dress was styled. Her gold strappy pumps are super sexy in a "barely there" kind of way and we love her little black box clutch with gold detail.

Fashion Fail Friday - Miley Cyrus Billboard Music Awards

Fashion Fail Friday this week was always going to focus on the Billboard music awards. It seems inevitable that more than a handful of wannabes will get it wrong at this event. Now we know there is something to be said for "shock value" but we've tried to steer clear of those deliberatley trying to get attention and focussed on those who just get it wrong!

Leading the pack was Miley Cyrus... ahhhh... poor Miley! The thing about Miley is that she seems to be convinced she is stylish but always comes off contrived and just plain... trying too hard. It's the super heavy make up, touseled old lady hair, nose ring, body jewelry... ten things too many! One of the critical faux pas here is too much flesh. You simply never show EVERYTHING at the same time. This look could have gotten a pass if she wore the deep v blazer with some skinny white trousers and toned everything else down. Miley obviously is still learning about what it is to be sexy and not overtly slutty.

Yes people, that is a blazer, not a dress!

Old Hollywood Glamour at the Cannes film festival

Stars embraced old Hollywood glamour in recent outings on the red carpet at the Cannes Film festival.

We saw Alexandra Maria Lara (we don't know her here at GoS but will be keeping our peepers on after this!) in Elie Saab Couture. We love the beading and detail as well as the little cap sleeves and the hint of sheerness. This gown is delicate and angelic reminiscent of 1920's glamour days.

Next we have the enchanting Diane Kruger continuing the theme of old Hollywood glamour in a white Nina Ricci gown with lace inserts, feather detail and corsage. On paper it sounds like there is way too much going on but the white pallette with the hint of lavender in the corsage manages to keep it all simple and sleek. Yet again reminding us of the roaring 20's.

Taylor Swift Billboard music awards 2012

We're not big fans of Taylor Swift over here at GoS but this is testament to how amazing Elie Saab is! Taylor certainly grabbed our attention in this beautiful red Eliee Saab gown with lace inserts as she graced the red carpet of the 2012 Billboard awards. Now if we could just get her to do something about those bangs.....

Stars shine in gold trend at Cannes film festival

The gold trend just keeps getting stronger and the stars are literally wrapping themselves in all things that glitter.

Leading the pack at the Cannes film festival we saw Diane Kruger in a super shiny Vivienne Westwood design. Although we love the cut and drape of this dress the true "gold" is somewhat lost in the pictures due to the reflections caught on the dress.

Jessica Chastain rocked our world in this ethereal Gucci evening gown.

Barbara Palvin gives us another take on the gold trend in a Valenntino Couture longe sleeve gown with braid detail that reminds us of the good parts of the 70's. Just goes to show that gold does not have to be too overpowering or showy.

Stars embrace all things glittering on Cannes red carpet

Salma Hayek and Jennifer Connelly are just a few of the stars embracing sparkle and embellishment on the Cannes Film festival red carpet. We love Salmas midnight blue Gucci strapless number although we would have ditched the necklace in this instance. Jennifer has kept it simple and sexy in another Gucci sparkler showing off her best assets... those pins.

Naomi embraced her inner swan with a 1920's style drop waist feather and sequin cocktail dress.

It's time to pull out your sequins ladies!!

Fan Bingbing Elie Saab Cannes Film Festival

Fan Bingbing was a showstopper as usual on the red carpet for the premiere of "Rust and Bone" in a nude lace Elie Saab evening gown with matching cape.

Not everyone can wear a cape but Fan shines! She's kept the look elegant and imperial with her updo and dazzling diamond drop earrings.

Eva Longoria Emilio Pucci Cannes Film Festival

Eva Longoria was every inch the Hollywood siren at the premiere of "Rust and Bone" wearing an Emilio Pucci Fall 2012 white gown. This dress has a train, plunge neckline, sheer inserts and strappy back detail yet it looks simple and elegant.

This is one of our favorite looks so far. We love that Eva has given us a soft look with her glossy, tumbling curls and her circle diamond drop earrings.

Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior Couture Cannes Film Festival

Marion Cotillard chose a Christian Dior Couture gown for her premiere of "Rust & Bone" at the Cannes film festival.

The actress looked striking in her sweetheart bodice ballgown. We love that the black theme is continuing on the red carpet but Marion has kicked it up a notch with her navy blue tulle skirt. We adore the belted waist and the simplicity of the rest of her styling.

Freida Pinto embraced a number of trends with her second showing at the Cannes Film festival in a sheer embellished Versace gown with thigh high split.

As mad as we are about a black evening gown over here at GoS this is not one of our favorites but it's not completely wrong either. We would have loved to have seen a better shoe choice though!
