What's Hot - Hair trends we love at GoS

One of our favorite hair trends right now is the neat ponytail. It's simple, sleek and easy to recreate. Pull out your elastic bands and a little hair lacquer because the ponytail is no longer the hallmark of a bad hair day, it's a style statement!

After seasons of .. "The bigger the better" in hair we are seeing a return to low volume, sleeker styles that are fresh, effortless and modern.

Get your bobby pins out and start twisting because the twist is back! This feminine look is a modern take on some of the 40's style low twists.

Alternatively we have a modern take on the "Heidi braid" that's been seen all over the red carpet over the past few seasons. Instead of the chunky bold braid this look takes on a softer more modern approach with skinny twists instead of braids.

What's the GoS - The month that was, Inspiration & Desperation

Well we've come to the end of our very first month on blogger here at GoS. It's had it's moments, it's been up and down, we've been inspired, uninspired, mad, happy, frustrated, infuriated...  30 days and 43 blogs later we're still here!

Now us ladies here at GoS have participated in the blogosphere in the past and it is no easy task. It's always hard to put your ideas and thoughts out there only to feel that no-one is listening. That is essentially what happens when you blog as an unknown. It is those early days when views are few and far between and you feel like you will stay lost in the dark abyss that is the internet that are crucial. It's about toughening up and getting through those times when no-one is listening because maybe tomorrow someone will.

The same goes for our etsy store. It's never easy to pour your heart and soul into something hoping someone will notice you. It's a matter of staying put and doing your best to make sure more and more people get to see what you have to offer. After all, if no-one knows what you have on offer how will they know if they like it or not?

So what have we learned about ourselves here at GoS this month? We realised we're pretty tough! It's been a hard few months but we haven't given up. Even on those days when we ask ourselves "what the hell are we doing? this is too hard!" we pull it together, eat a piece of chocolate and come back tomorrow. AND we've also really enjoyed researching blogs, finding new things and bringing you "Fashion Fail Fridays!"

So this blog is dedicated to those who have listened in our first month. Thank you to all those who stumbled across us and stayed for a moment. It makes it a little easier to come back each day.

So if you're feeling a bit deflated today, like no-one is listening to you... chin up! It does get better.

We look forward to our next 30 days, the good, the bad and the ugly.

Stay inspired!

Style Inspiration - The Must Have Red Jacket

Every wardrobe simply must have a red jacket. It is a color we come back to season after season. Seeing as we're in freezing Melbourne we wanted to bring you one of our lovely vintage finds to bring some color into your life.

The cut is a 1960's style box shape which is designed to be worn loose and sits above the hips. It is double breasted and has two silver buttons and slit pockets on the front to keep the silhouette lean. This classic box shape with wide lapels is a very flattering cut and can take you from the boardroom to a weekend bbq with ease.

We've put together a few ideas on how to wear this lovely box jacket be it with classic black for work, jeans, shorts or a day dress this classic piece will lift any outfit and be a staple in your wardrobe.

You can also check out one of our other little red jackets at oiur Etsy store.

Steal Her Style under $100 - Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton Pink dress

We adore Kate Middletons Emilia Wickstead ladylike pink dress so much we simply had to do a steal her style. And we did it for under $100 for all of those out there like us who have to crunch the numbers when shopping.

Copying a style can be hard to match exactly sometimes so we recommend searching for the details of the piece you love. For instance with a dress pick a piece in the same color, length, cut or with the same detailing. Don't be afraid to look for second hand items either as many details and styles have been around before.

In keeping with the theme of recycling looks we've started our "steal her style"  inspiration with some truly "recycled" items. First up we have a 1970's vintage pink dress from etsy at just $59.00

Here's another little gem - Etsy Pink pleat dress at a mere $25.00

Here we have a the same pink color with pleats in a different cut from Asos for $64.60.

Finally we have pink dress with cap sleeves and pleat detailing from House of Fraser at $70

Kate MIddleton Duchess of Cambridge Recycles her look

What a delight it was today to see the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton "recycle" a dress she had worn just a few short weeks ago.

Now we are all about recycling over here at GoS and as lovely as the Duchess looks we wish she had given it a little more time in between her looks. Alternatively we feel she could have worked the look a bit more by adding perhaps a cream overcoat which would have mateched her accessories beautifully.

Having said that we still give the lovely lady the thumbs up for being bold enough to recycle her look so very obviously. In a time when most of us are clutching onto every dollar it feels like this young woman may have some understanding of what it is to stretch your buck as far as you can. Then again if I was wearing that 1200 pound Emilia Wickstead number I'd be sure to get the most out of it too!!!

Style inspiration - Head to toe seasonal dressing for under $160

We're all trying to get the most out of our wardrobes these days. As the seasons change we don't have to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe and we don't need to steer away from our beloved spring / summer pieces.

Today we're going with some casual style inspiration and making what may be considered a summer dress work in the cooler months. We started with a cute trapeze style mini with leather strap detail.

We added brown leather pull on boots  a steal at only $76.50. We paired the boots with some over the knee grey socks at only $6.80. To top it off we have the cable knit another steal at only $34.00! All available at Asos

This whole look comes in at only $157.30!! On the bonus side those leather boots and that cardigan will see you right through winter and autumn as you pair them with jeans and maxis. When spring hits wear the dress and boots on your festival rounds. Great style does not have to cost the earth!

Steal her style Cannes Film Festival - Sparkle for under $100

Today for a little style inspiration we thought we'd go back to the Cannes Film festival red carpet last week. We saw a number of stars step out in all things sparkly. One of our favorite looks was worn by Jennifer Connelly. We loved the simplicity and effortlessness of her Gucci sequin mini. Best of all we loved that it's something that we can all replicate.

Here we have one of our very own pieces for under $100!!! Our Etsy Sequin Black Mini

Short and sexy - bob hairstyles to rock your world

After seeing how Miley Cyrus' stylist botched the bob we decided to show how a bob should be worn. It should be sassy, sexy and fun and should not make you look like an old lady. We hope these looks inspire!

Fashion Fail Friday - Billboard Music Awards

The fashion failures came through thick and fast on the Billboard Music awards red carpet this year.

Here we have Amber Rose who is a breathe away from a nip slip. This pose looks like she's trying hard to keep everything in place.

And here's Lacey Schwimmer showing us how NOT to embrace the sparkle trend or the colored hair trend. We're not sure who this lady is or what she does... after this image we don't really care but she looks like she stepped off Jersey Shore and that is never a fashion forward move. YIKES!

Fashion Fail Friday - Miley Cyrus Billboard Music Awards

Fashion Fail Friday this week was always going to focus on the Billboard music awards. It seems inevitable that more than a handful of wannabes will get it wrong at this event. Now we know there is something to be said for "shock value" but we've tried to steer clear of those deliberatley trying to get attention and focussed on those who just get it wrong!

Leading the pack was Miley Cyrus... ahhhh... poor Miley! The thing about Miley is that she seems to be convinced she is stylish but always comes off contrived and just plain... trying too hard. It's the super heavy make up, touseled old lady hair, nose ring, body jewelry... ten things too many! One of the critical faux pas here is too much flesh. You simply never show EVERYTHING at the same time. This look could have gotten a pass if she wore the deep v blazer with some skinny white trousers and toned everything else down. Miley obviously is still learning about what it is to be sexy and not overtly slutty.

Yes people, that is a blazer, not a dress!

Old Hollywood Glamour at the Cannes film festival

Stars embraced old Hollywood glamour in recent outings on the red carpet at the Cannes Film festival.

We saw Alexandra Maria Lara (we don't know her here at GoS but will be keeping our peepers on after this!) in Elie Saab Couture. We love the beading and detail as well as the little cap sleeves and the hint of sheerness. This gown is delicate and angelic reminiscent of 1920's glamour days.

Next we have the enchanting Diane Kruger continuing the theme of old Hollywood glamour in a white Nina Ricci gown with lace inserts, feather detail and corsage. On paper it sounds like there is way too much going on but the white pallette with the hint of lavender in the corsage manages to keep it all simple and sleek. Yet again reminding us of the roaring 20's.

Taylor Swift Billboard music awards 2012

We're not big fans of Taylor Swift over here at GoS but this is testament to how amazing Elie Saab is! Taylor certainly grabbed our attention in this beautiful red Eliee Saab gown with lace inserts as she graced the red carpet of the 2012 Billboard awards. Now if we could just get her to do something about those bangs.....

Stars shine in gold trend at Cannes film festival

The gold trend just keeps getting stronger and the stars are literally wrapping themselves in all things that glitter.

Leading the pack at the Cannes film festival we saw Diane Kruger in a super shiny Vivienne Westwood design. Although we love the cut and drape of this dress the true "gold" is somewhat lost in the pictures due to the reflections caught on the dress.

Jessica Chastain rocked our world in this ethereal Gucci evening gown.

Barbara Palvin gives us another take on the gold trend in a Valenntino Couture longe sleeve gown with braid detail that reminds us of the good parts of the 70's. Just goes to show that gold does not have to be too overpowering or showy.
