Makeup Looks For Spring Summer Party Season - 2013 Trends

In keeping with my search for the perfect look for that "dressy casual" engagement party I've picked a few key makeup looks for those balmy evenings. Yes, we are getting ahead of ourselves by looking at the Spring Summer 2013 trends when we're only just heading into the Australian summer but who doesn't love to be ahead of the pack?

Straight from the runway we have two effects perfect for the dressy casual evening look. Focus is on the eyes or the lips, not both.

First up we have a returned focus on the lower lashes. On the model the waterline is clear or line it in white. Keeping the waterline clear or white opens the eye making it perfect for those of us with smaller eyes. Lower lashes are lengthened and darkened and the lashline has a smudging of brown or black liner.  Keep the tear duct open and brighten up with a touch of sparkle or bring in a color to make eyes pop. Skin is kept matte and lips neutral.

Keeping the focus on the eye faux lashes are still all the rage. A great way to minimise your make up efforts faux lashes are a bold look for evening. Keeping the rest of your makeup soft and neutral stops this look from getting into drag queen territory and draws attention to the windows of your soul. Keep the lower lashline soft and light to keep the eye open and bright.

Warmer seasons always see a return to warm erathy colors. 2013 calls for brown, camel and bronze highlights. The model wears lined eyes to bring this soft, natural finish into an evening look. Lining the waterline of the eye is perfect for those with large eyes as it closes the eye and makes them appear smaller.

Color is still a key look and it can be on your eyes or on your lips, not on both. Here we have a very muted face with a bold fuschia lip. For an evening look I'd add a slick of mascara and let your lips do all the talking.

My favorite evening / party look is not going away! YAY! The classic red lip will always be a make up staple for evening and for those bold enough to wear it during the day. Keep your bold lip up to date by making it matte. If red is not your thing opt for a matte fuschia. Keep the rest of your make up soft and neutral.

Enjoy!

Fashion Fail Friday - MTV Movie Awards Worst Dressed

This week gave us the 2012 Mtv Movie Awards and with it some fashion failures! The one common trend was "cut outs". Cut outs can be hard to wear for anyone and it is a rare ocassion that it actually looks good but here are two ladies who gave us a definitive "How NOT to wear cut out detail".

First up we have Julianne Hough. A slashy by trade... singer / actress / ballroom dancer. Julianne decided to take her slashy status to extremes by slashing the middle of her dress. Unfortunately all this succeeded in doing was making her middle look wide and her overall look cheap. Add this to the too short, too tight skirt and her parted leg stance and we have a massive FAIL!

Next up we have Brooke Hogan. Not known for anything other than her dad... Hulk Hogan and her hideous fashion sense at least Brooke is consistent in her bad styling. Brooke too opted to embrace the cut out trend as well as the sequin trend. Again, the cut out created a wide silhouette and the uber short sparkly dress invoked images of stripper couture. We also have some concern for Brookes graduated skin color!

So ladies let's take a hint... cut out detail does not flatter the feminine figure and uber short is not a sign of style and taste.

Enjoy!

Style Inspiration - The Must Have Red Jacket

Every wardrobe simply must have a red jacket. It is a color we come back to season after season. Seeing as we're in freezing Melbourne we wanted to bring you one of our lovely vintage finds to bring some color into your life.

The cut is a 1960's style box shape which is designed to be worn loose and sits above the hips. It is double breasted and has two silver buttons and slit pockets on the front to keep the silhouette lean. This classic box shape with wide lapels is a very flattering cut and can take you from the boardroom to a weekend bbq with ease.

We've put together a few ideas on how to wear this lovely box jacket be it with classic black for work, jeans, shorts or a day dress this classic piece will lift any outfit and be a staple in your wardrobe.

You can also check out one of our other little red jackets at oiur Etsy store.

Old Hollywood Glamour at the Cannes film festival

Stars embraced old Hollywood glamour in recent outings on the red carpet at the Cannes Film festival.

We saw Alexandra Maria Lara (we don't know her here at GoS but will be keeping our peepers on after this!) in Elie Saab Couture. We love the beading and detail as well as the little cap sleeves and the hint of sheerness. This gown is delicate and angelic reminiscent of 1920's glamour days.

Next we have the enchanting Diane Kruger continuing the theme of old Hollywood glamour in a white Nina Ricci gown with lace inserts, feather detail and corsage. On paper it sounds like there is way too much going on but the white pallette with the hint of lavender in the corsage manages to keep it all simple and sleek. Yet again reminding us of the roaring 20's.

Fashion Fail Friday - All that glitters is not gold

As with all things there is always "the good, the bad and the ugly". After seeing some great fashion this week on the red carpet at the Met Ball we decided we simply must add a "Fashion Fail Friday" to our blog because we all know for every hit there is a miss!

One of the biggest trends we saw this week was gold. Gold can be striking, dramatic, bold and elegant but anything that flattens your breasts and sends them south, east and west at the same time is not a good thing. Another thing to watch out for is straps that cut into your back. This is not about curvy versus skinny, fashion is all about great cuts that suit your body and accentuate your assets. Unfortunately for Christina this is just one of the many times she got it wrong.

Here is one way NOT to wear the trend.

2012 Met Ball - Gold trend

All that glitters....

Yesterdays Met Ball saw a number of looks on the red carpet. One of my favorite trends would have to be GOLD!!

Here we have  Bianca Brandolini d’Adda, in Dolce & Gabbana wearing not only the gold trend but the cape trend as well! Bold and beautiful!

Jessica Alba gave us liquid gold in Michael Kors.

Karolina Kurkova matched her Rachel Zoe gown with a turban. Yet another bold look straight from the 70's that actually works on the ethereal beauty.

Kate Upton was another one who opted for Michael Kors.

Cameron Diaz sparkled in Stella McCartney although her strange "Something about Mary" hair style seems to have stolen most of the lustre from her beautiful gown.

2012 Met Ball - Short and sweet

A few ladies on the red carpet opted to turn heads by showing off some leg!

Chloe Sevigny kept with her quirky and eclectic personality in a Miu Miu mirrored geometric dress.

The ever gorgeous Emma Stone donned a 50's style short Lanvin dress decorated with 3000 plastic flowers!

Kate Bosworth knocked my socks off in a Prada bordeaux and navy ostrich feather low cut-back mini dress.

Kristen Stewart wore a Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquière dress that left me feeling cold, confused and uninspired.

Finally good old Gwyneth Paltrow wore Prada and inspired nada. As lovely as her pins look this is reminiscent of a bridesmaid dress that's been cut up.

The winner for me by a mile is Kate Bosworth. Everything works, it's edgy, sexy and cool. Emma Stone comes in second because the overall look was a little too girly and I'm not delighted with the black pumps!
